Photographer, author, editor, instructor, musician, Jean is a composite of all of these and much more. Her fascination with photography grew from her myriad interests, her family, and her love of travel. With her camera around her neck and a notebook in hand, she has explored the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and India. She has also taken students on tours of Europe. Her recent travels include a return to her birthplace in Panama.

As an author, Jean has written travel guides and children’s books featuring the history of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Her publication experience also includes editing science books as well as community and family histories.

Deeply involved in the educational system of York County, Virginia, Jean developed curriculum for the York County School of the Arts, a magnet school for the arts. She also established a mentorship program within the community for students to explore their professional interests. As an instructor, she taught highly motivated students rigorous courses in creative writing, literature, art and music. Her instructional skills also included community involvement teaching English as a second language and serving as a county election official.

Jean integrates all she has learned and experienced into her view of the world. She uses her artistic eye to capture her unique vision with her camera. She looks at the mundane and turns it into art.

Jean takes 35 millimeter slides or uses a SLR digital camera. Using archival inks and fine art papers in a digital darkroom, she has gained recognition for her evocative art. Currently, she participates in area art shows and festivals, and her work is displayed in galleries, shops, and homes.

Welcome to Jean’s world.
