Archie was born and raised in South Carolina where he escaped the cotton fields at seventeen to seek adventure with the Air Force.  Early in his career, Archie worked on radar sets, pulled cables  up missile gantries, and tracked spacemen orbiting our lovely planet.

After picking up degrees at the Universities of South Carolina and Virginia, his job description shifted from missiles to microchips.  As a scientist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), he ran a semiconductor lab when computers were largely magnetic core memory.  In this work he used cameras to record images of the inner workings of nature not only with light but also with electrons and x-rays.

He also looked at the macroscopic.  Using his experiences with microchips, he helped develop the digital camera that now sits on the planet Mars.  He also helped evaluate and choose the first cameras for the Hubble Space Telescope.

Archie finds inspiration in his environment.  He now uses the computers brought forth from the development of semiconductors along with his extensive camera experience to record his vision of the beauty and excitement found on our Mother Earth.

Archie takes 35 millimeter slides or uses a SLR digital camera.  He uses archival inks and fine art papers in a digital darkroom to process his work.  He participates in area art shows, galleries, and festivals. Archie’s photography hangs in homes, art galleries, and corporate offices.
