Who are Archie & Jean
Although married for over a half century, Archie and Jean have come to their art by different paths. Archie worked as a senior scientist with NASA for almost 40 years. During this time, he worked on the digital camera that now sits on the planet Mars, served on a team to evaluate and choose the first cameras for the Hubble Space Telescope, and designed crystal growth experiments for the Space Shuttle. He has taken all that he learned and has translated it with his camera to reveal his view of nature and the world around us. Archie views photography as art, and he enjoys sharing his passion as he explores the world through his lens.
Jean’s journey as a photographer began as an interdisciplinary teacher in a magnet school. She sees connections between story, art, music, and drama as she looks through the lens of her camera. She seeks subjects that tell interesting stories to compel the viewer to become involved in them as she did. Jean loves using the camera to express her unique perspective of the world. Inspiration for her work comes from the mundane, the surreal, and the rhythms of nature.
Archie and Jean use SLR digital cameras, archival inks, and fine art papers in a digital darkroom. They have gained recognition and won awards for their evocative art. Their work is displayed in galleries, art shows and festivals, shops, offices, and homes.
